poetry day

BeginningsPosted by GW Mon, May 02, 2016 21:59:11
Marvellous day near Kirkby Lonsdale writing poetry and listening to what others had written. Weather was not great but we were able to walk in the garden. Finished with an evening of music, song and poems. I am delighted that Sally Evans, editor of Poetry Scotland, invited me to this and have wonderful memories of place and people

Bookshop Easter eggs

BeginningsPosted by GW Sun, March 27, 2016 11:25:15
Rainy Easter Saturday but Wullie Mo and I decided on a run up to Callander and King's Bookshop. Great afternoon of chat and buying. I purchased a copy of Wuthering Heights - I am trying to catch up with the classics that I have missed reading and a poetry anthology and a pamphlet by Sally Evans. Also an opportunity for Wullie and I to pick up our copies od Diehard 's anthology of Callander Haiku. Callander is a lovely village and it is only an hour or so drive from Glasgow. Worth a visit for the bookshop alone. The eggs? - Sally keeps chickens in their garden behind the shop Wullie and Mo came away with six free range eggs each.

York

BeginningsPosted by GW Mon, March 14, 2016 21:16:55
Couple of days in York for the launch of a short story collection by Cinnamon Press. Great night with three wonderful readers, two of whom were friends from writing courses; Will Kemp from my first visit to Moniack Mhor and Jane McLaughlin from Tyn y Coed last March. Also met up with Jan and Adam from Cinnamon. Spent Friday afternoon in the National Railway Museum - loved it.

Grant Application

BeginningsPosted by GW Mon, March 07, 2016 13:31:57
Have been working on a grant application for Read Raw. Instructions from the local authority said to mail or email. With the form is a bundle of back-up material so decided to collate and hand deliver. All fine until get email asking if I could email a copy of the form. Ah the wonder of the modern world - we only recognise something the computer tells us. No doubt the emailed form will now be printed out so it can be reviewed.

2016

BeginningsPosted by GW Wed, February 24, 2016 21:36:49
Christmas and New Year - I am glad they are passed. Over to my brother's on both days which was good but I no longer celebrate this time of the year. Have a hiatus on the fiction front with a number of projects started and now in limbo. Poetry - well that never stops - have started on a series of poems about Castle Semple Lochwinnoch which I am enjoying. The Paisley Writers Class goes well with good writing and a friendly group.
Now to plan some writing breaks for 2016.

Cinnamon Course

BeginningsPosted by GW Sun, November 29, 2015 18:56:08
Back from a great week in North Wales at a Cinnamon Press course. Was there in March and enjoyed it so much decided to return - summer course in Scotland was disappointing so I needed a pick-me-up. Wonderfully friendly group and there was the pleasant surprise that Tamsin from March course was there. I highly recommend going - back with seven new poems to edit and with renewed energy.

Aberfeldy

BeginningsPosted by GW Sun, November 08, 2015 17:54:07
Yesterday went on a day trip to Aberfeldy for a poetry event. Weather was dreich but the autumn colours were wonderful and the poetry was worth the effort. It has been a while since I was up that way and had forgotten just how stunning the scenery is even in cloud and rain. Must go back on a bright sunny day.
