Busy year

BeginningsPosted by GW Mon, November 13, 2017 10:24:19
So much has been happening I forgot to record it here. Start of the year was marred by getting very down but that is behind me I hope. The launch of my first poetry collection with Diehard Press 'The year of the Loch' in March was a thrill and I am pleased to say that it has been well received and that sales have gone well. Went to Stanza in St Andrews and had a great few days. Poetry courses are addictive and I loved the Summer Poetry Course at Brantwood with Geraldine Green and Pippa Little, so much so that I went back for a poetry reading and then on to Cinnamon Press course at Tyn y Coed in Wales. This is the fourth time for me and it did not disappoint. During all this poems have appeared in The Bees Breakfast, The Bridge and Rock Declaimers, York Mix, and others. In September was delighted to be part of 'Signs of the Times' poetry from The Burgh Poets. Last mention in this list is that there is a poem on display at Lochwinnoch Station.
March was taken up with Read Raw and the Tannahill Poetry Competiton which went well with great winners and a night to remember when the prize giving was part of the Lochwinnoch Arts Festival.
No wonder I have been remiss in giving updates, when did I have the time.

New Year

BeginningsPosted by GW Wed, January 04, 2017 11:43:58
Happy New year to all and I hope 2017 brings all you wish. I find Christmas and New Year difficult times so appreciate the support of family and friends. This year I need that more than ever and realise how much I do rely on other people. This was strange as I have so much to look forward to in 2017. I have a collection due out in January which is published by Diehard. The poems are all based on Castle Semple Loch at Lochwinnoch and it is in that village that in March Read Raw are holding a few days of poetry writing. I am also leading a workshop as part of the Lochwinnoch Arts Festival and the result of the Tannahill Poetry Competition will be announced later that week; an exciting time.
Busy days ahead and I hope to gather together another collection once I have faced the mountain of poems I need to review and sift.

Wales Again

BeginningsPosted by GW Thu, December 01, 2016 11:43:26
I decided to enjoy another writing course in Wales. Cinnamon Press have a wonderful setting and great tutors in Jan Fortune and Pete Marshall so well supported by Caroline and Adam. I am always amazed at the fellow writers I meet at these courses where friendships form in minutes that last for ever. Have a collection of poems - about a local loch - in the pipeline so watch for exciting news.

It has been a busy time. I had a wonderful writing break at Moniack Mhor. I recommend the courses there as long as you pick carefully ( this is personal about a tutor clash) as it is a beautiful place and I have met great people. this was the third time i have gone there. Had a quick trip to Roscommon for the Siarsceal Festival; great fun and the people so friendly and one delightful lady surrender a Friday morning to drive me to Knock Airport. Just back from Will Kemp's launch ( a friend made at Moniack) in York. Go out and buy a copy of The Painters Who Studied Clouds from Cinnaman Press. A night of poetry and meeting Will and Jan and Adaam of Cinnamom Press.
Decided to get hard copies of my poetry so have been plough through printing from computer. How I wish I had done this as I went along and also tat I had thought about where files were stored. I seem to have set up about five directories and there may be others yet to be found.
Autumn I like, the drive back from York was long due to road closures but the colours in the countryside made it an enjoyable trip.

Barnard Castle

BeginningsPosted by GW Fri, July 08, 2016 14:34:41
Lovely weekend at Barnard Castle in the company of marvellous poets. Returned with some poems from the workshops and many new friends. Returned to find that a poem of mine is on the Stirling Council site as the July Poem. So far 2016bhas been a good writing year.

St Magnus International Festival

BeginningsPosted by GW Mon, June 27, 2016 11:44:21
Back from two days at the festival. Great concert by the BBC Symphony Orchestra and highlight was listening to The Hebrides Ensemble rehearsal in the Cathedral. Delighted to have a poem in the Souvenir Programme celebrating that 2016 is the fortieth festival.

Ponden Hall

BeginningsPosted by GW Sun, June 12, 2016 15:32:51
Wonderful poetry course at Ponden Hall. Great tutors in Andrew and Lindsey and generous and inspiring fellow participants. Julie and Steve are delightful hosts. I highly recommend a stay at the Hall with its historic links to 'Wuthering Heights'.

Delighted to have a poem in the Linwood Medical Centre as part of the Art Work to brighten the walls. Had a Hillman Imp when started to drive and remember it fondly. Also still lust to own a Sunbeam Stiletto - the sports version.
